What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a powerful way of changing a bad habit and overcoming fears.
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind (or brainwave state) that everyone experiences every day. If you have ever driven somewhere and when you got there, wondered how you got there, it is likely that you were in a trance. Your subconscious took over the task of driving and your conscious mind went somewhere else. If you have a repetitive task to do and you have done it enough times to know exactly how to do it, the subconscious takes over and does it flawlessly (to the level you have taught it) every time. It becomes a HABIT.
The reason we are designed to do this is to save energy, because consciously focusing on a task takes a lot of energy. But once a habit is formed the subconscious can do it and use a fraction of the energy. Unfortunately, habits can be good and bad and if you have a habit that is no longer giving you the result you want, it can be difficult to consciously break that habit. This is where hypnotherapy can really help.
Hypnotherapy is a process of progressive relaxation which allows the hypnotherapist to bypass your thinking mind. From this relaxed state, new suggestions can be provided to the subconscious mind which can provide new tools and change your perspective on certain parts of your life that may have been difficult before.
Some important things about Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy:
- Going into Hypnosis is a simple process of following directions – as you follow the conscious directions, the subconscious directions will help you to relax more.
- Hypnosis is a natural brainwave state – brainwaves naturally change from Beta (thinking state) to Alpha (meditative state) to Theta (hypnotic state) every day when we go into and out of sleep.
- Hypnosis is not dissimilar to a waking state, brainwaves slow down and the mind becomes more receptive to suggestions.
- Hypnotherapy is the art of using Hypnosis to provide a therapeutic benefit to an individual.
- Hypnotherapy is a “do with” process not a “do to” process. You have to be ready and willing to make the change.
- Hypnotherapy can help people make real changes to how they behave or respond in life which can lead to living a life more aligned with your truth.
- A hypnotherapist cannot make you do something that you don’t want (suggestions must align with your goals and values).
- You will not lose control.
- You will hear and remember everything.
- Hypnotherapy is a powerful way of changing a bad habit and overcoming fears
